Free tools for video manipulation and redaction in Linux aren't that catchy to brainstorm if you cognize where on earth to watch.

Avidemux is a sovereign video trained worker planned for crude cutting, filtering and secret writing tasks. It supports lots data file types, plus AVI, DVD compatible MPEG files, MP4 and ASF, victimization a miscellany of codecs. Interestingly, it's gettable for Linux, BSD, Mac OS X and Windows lower than the GNU GPL licence. I haven't well-tried Mac OS X and Windows versions, but the program runs super beneath Ubuntu Linux (Dapper Drake).

For profile conversion, there's FFMPEG, which is free-but you'll have to revise to use it through with the bidding flash. Unfortunately, the MAN leaf for the program isn't outstandingly limpid.
